28 October :: More on promotional postcard

I've just added the full blurb from the back of the promo. postcard (see story below and full details on the New Series News page) - click here to see it.

It's interesting stuff because it gives us an idea into how the series is being sold and well worth a look.

28 October :: First 'official' BBC promotional photo

We have just added a fantastic new promotional photograph for the new series to our New Series News page, to our knowledge this is the first such image made available by the BBC. It was taken from a promo. postcard available at the recent Brand Licensing 2004 trade event at Earl's Court, London.

Additionally some interesting information about the new series is available on a website run by Clive Banks that I discovered yesterday. How much of the material is factual and how much speculation I don't know but it's an interesting read. (When you get there click on the episode titles for more information.)

27 October :: Revamped New Series page

We have just revamped the New Series News page here at The Cuttings Archive. It includes all the old news on the series as well as some new items and will be updated regularly. We have also added background information about the series and the people involved in it.

The page also includes details of a couple of magazine reports that include some new spoilers (the spoilers can be avoided if you wish).

Tell us what you think below and do tell us if you think anything should be added.

26 October :: John Peel RIP

I've just heard that John Peel (the BBC Radio 1 DJ, not the BBC book author) has died.

Peel got me through the 1980's with some semblance of sanity with his Radio 1 show and is probably one of the most influential Radio 1 DJs in the history of the station. He was with the station from it's launch in 1967 until now, the only DJ to do so.

Peel never sold out, didn't bullshit and stayed true to his musical roots until his death - RIP THE GREATEST DJ ever.

As I write this "Teenage Kicks", by the Undertones, is playing on the radio...

23 October :: Assaulted by Daleks

Now here's a funny thing, I was checking out the films in this weeks Radio Times a short while ago and spotted a reasonably large picture of a Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD Film era Sugar Smacks advert with the headline "WIN A REAL DALEK". Just when you think you're safe from Who references they creep up and assault you... at least here in the UK.

The reason for it's being there is that Sky One are showing the film tonight (Saturday) so look out for that.

There's a nice little trivia article to go with it and rest assured this and the photo will find their way here in the not too distant future.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Roger :-)

22 October :: Doctor Who Confidential

The BBC website have revealed more information about Doctor Who Confidential, the new 13 part behind-the-scenes programme on BBC Three that will follow each episode of the 2005 series.

In a short interview Mark Cossey, the Executive Producer of Doctor Who Confidential, reveals that the show will include 'classic' Who as "a reference point to show why the Doctor is so important and why he is back".

However they will concentrate on the new series, "we just want to tell a good story and give the audience an insight into the legend that is Doctor Who."

It is unclear whether or not the programme will see a DVD release.

21 October :: Webmaster's musings...

It's a couple of days since the site had what I termed a "major update" and I'm sort of recovering from all the work that went into it (if I count it up, about 3 to 4 weeks of solid work believe it or not!).

LOL, basically recovering means I'm able to get on and work on other sites that actually make me enough money to pay the bills (but they're not as much fun, apart from Telos Publishing which is lovely :-).

Anyway I've been doing the usual trawls of the web today and looking at a few Who sites along the way (I look at other ones as well but more on that another time). Outpost Gallifrey is, as usual, a must and even though it's not been updated since the 18th (a long time for OG but Shaun does need a rest sometimes!) there's the forum to interest, amuse and madden (if I hear one more person bang on about why they don't like the new series when they haven't even seen the tiniest bit of footage... ;-).

Apart from OG I've been taking a look at the Restoration Team site, which I hadn't visited for a while until this week and has some great articles on the upcoming DVD releases. Of them all the one that excites me the most is the Lost In Time box set - it sounds superb so do have a read of the article about it - fantastic stuff.

Doctor Who at DVD.co.uk

On the subject of the box set I spotted a fantastic offer on DVD.co.uk - they're selling it for £17.99. I promptly cancelled my order with Play, who I haven't been so keen on since they sent me a bashed up copy of The Three Doctors box set (which I sent back!) last year, and saved myself a further £4 over their price. That was a grand total of £12 saved on the RRP which is £29.99. They have a rather snazzy little graphic on the site as well (you can see a small version on the left), click on it, or here, to take a look at the Lost in Time page on their site. They also have a page here with a listing of all the Doctor Who DVD's and the prices they're selling them at, which is useful! (Sorry to readers outside the U.K. this isn't much use to you but some of you guys have cheap DVD's anyway ;-) )

Before I end I've updated the blurb on the 2005 series which you get when you click on Doctor Who in the welcome message on the main page. I'm going to be making a few changes to the new series news page quite soon as well in order to pull it together better with more information about who's working on the series and the stories themselves.

I also should mention that Andrew Pixley has very kindly offered to help sort out a few anomalies and inconsistencies in the new Who on the Beeb pages. So there will be an even newer and improved version (just like soap powder ;-) at some point in the hopefully not too distant future - thanks Andrew.

That's for the future though... in the meantime U.K. readers, order you copy of Lost in Time... and have a good day/evening/night wherever you are.

Roger :-)

19 October :: New series logo unveiled

Well, it's now up on the BBC site (and on our main page) for all to see - what do you think?

I quite like it, particularly now I've seen the large version that's available as wallpaper on the BBC site.

Like it or loathe it - we'd like to hear what you think so post away...

19 October :: Welcome to Comment @ Cuttings Archive

Hello and welcome to our brand new comments page - we hope you enjoy it here! :-)

With your support we'd like this page to become a useful forum for the sharing of news and comment about the series as well as a place to post details of print and online articles about Doctor Who.

This page is something of a cross between a blog (which is the method by which we post here) and a forum (which is where your comments come in). We certainly don't aim to compete with the established forums, such as the excellent Outpost Gallifrey Forum, rather we'd like to be able to use this page as a means of speaking directly to our visitors and as a means for you to speak back to us.

Once a topic is open any comments are welcome as long as they fall within the conditions of our Terms of Use which basically means don't be nasty and abusive here (or we'll ban your IP address).

Use the "Comment" links below each item here to tell us what you think.

Have fun but before you start please do read our Terms of Use for this page and make everyone's life a bit easier by sticking to them as we're sure the vast majority of you will do - thanks for your co-operation.
